There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gaming is against the law. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of most border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling den, contains 150 slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel complex that contains numerous conveniences in addition to the casino, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 table games.
