There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den gaming is prohibited. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of many borders.
The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat casino, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that contains many luxuries on top of the gambling hall, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
