The entire process of living in Zimbabwe is something of a gamble at the moment, so you may think that there might be very little desire for visiting Zimbabwe’s casinos. In fact, it appears to be operating the opposite way around, with the awful market conditions creating a bigger desire to bet, to attempt to discover a quick win, a way from the difficulty.

For most of the locals living on the tiny nearby wages, there are two popular forms of gaming, the state lottery and Zimbet. Just as with almost everywhere else in the world, there is a state lotto where the chances of succeeding are unbelievably low, but then the prizes are also extremely high. It’s been said by market analysts who study the concept that most do not buy a card with an actual expectation of profiting. Zimbet is based on one of the local or the UK soccer divisions and involves determining the outcomes of future matches.

Zimbabwe’s gambling dens, on the other shoe, mollycoddle the very rich of the society and sightseers. Up until a short while ago, there was a considerably large tourist industry, centered on nature trips and trips to Victoria Falls. The economic collapse and connected crime have carved into this trade.

Among Zimbabwe’s gambling halls, there are two in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has five gaming tables and slots, and the Plumtree gambling hall, which has only slot machine games. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has only slot machines. Mutare has the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, the pair of which contain gaming tables, one armed bandits and electronic poker machines, and Victoria Falls houses the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, the two of which have gaming machines and table games.

In addition to Zimbabwe’s casinos and the aforementioned mentioned lottery and Zimbet (which is quite like a pools system), there is a total of 2 horse racing complexes in the state: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the second municipality) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Given that the economy has deflated by more than 40% in the past few years and with the associated deprivation and conflict that has cropped up, it isn’t understood how well the vacationing industry which supports Zimbabwe’s gambling dens will do in the near future. How many of the casinos will carry through until conditions get better is merely not known.
