There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den gaming is illegal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent spot, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are allegedly needed to pass, there are means around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel compound that contains a number of comforts accompanying the casino, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
