There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling hall, contains 150 slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel complex that contains numerous luxuries accompanying the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
