There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino gambling is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; still, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of most borders.
The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, features one hundred and fifty slots and sixty table games. The Naga casino is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel building that features a number of luxuries in addition to the casino, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight tables.
