There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is illegal. Eight gambling halls are situated in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and even though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that features numerous amenities in addition to the gambling hall, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
